Cricoarytenoid arthritis (CA) is a rare complication of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) that can cause symptoms such as hoarseness, painful swallowing, feeling like something is stuck in your throat, shortness of breath, loud breathing, and airway obstruction. The cricoarytenoid joints are a pair of small joints in the back wall of the larynx (voice box). These joints open, close, and tighten the vocal cords during speech and breathing.
